"Nocestry", airbrush on paper. From Risposte, 2024. Richard Hodges has made photographic portraits of seventeen artists and invited a visual riposte. This piece identifiesthe distinctive Hodges nose serving as a prominent feature of our male ancestral bloodline. Four generations can be seen, including the photographer himself.
"Happy Cooking Vol.1", Acrylic and airbrush on Canvas, 970 x 970 cm, 2023. From Northern Exposure 8 at Glasshouse Regional Gallery in Port Macquarie. This painting is a dream scape of a common image. It’s about coming to terms with a new place. An exercise to reimagine what home is. The idea of using something old to create something new and the feeling of belonging.
"Fish and Chips", finalist in STILL: National still life award 2023. Collaboration with Alejandra Ramirez. Cardboard, paper, masking tape, PVC glue, acrylic and airbrush paint, 98 x 57 x 18 cm, 2024. Fish & Chips is a cardboard sculpture of a 1993 VHS, gifted from Bellingen Video Connection. Oblivious of who Peter Doyle was, we looked into it and ended up at his restaurant in Sydney, 30 years later. Starting with an ironic appreciation for bas taste Australiana aesthetic, this work has revealed a history of food in art, particularly as a still life subject, exploring the relationship between food and culture.

Facebook and other cyberspace distractions all playing with our vanities with promises of escape while politicians and financiers create alternate realities.
